A graphic designer should be aware of many things while working on his projects, besides pleasing himself and his clients.
Long time ago it was not that easy to be a Graphic designer without creativity and Accuracy of observation in everything.
Nowadays, it’s pretty easy to learn new things with all this detailed tutorials and tips.
As for me, after two years of experience in this field, I realised that designing icons and graphics is not only creating and colorizing diffrent shapes in Illustrator, but it’s about this 3 basic elements of good graphic design .
GRADIENTS
before talking about this element let us take a look at this picture :
What is the difference ? Wich one looks realistic for you ?
The second one attracts me more, this is the main role of gradients, they help you to ” Make It Look Attractive ”
Now, take a look around you in you room or wherever you are, You will definitely notice that gradients are everywhere, there is not a simple object in this world with one color, and of course, it’s due to lights , and this brings us to the next element .
LIGHTS & SHADOWS

See the difference, Lights&Shadows and gradients are somehow linked to each others, you just need to make sure that the source of light and the shadow are not is the same side like this :
DETAILS
Details make your concept ( logo, icon, graphic art ..) look real , and make you look Professional, It includes the Two first elements, beside adding every small thing you see while working on illustrator. here is a very detailed art work .
